While Germany might not be known for its cheap motorcycles, Italy and its Vespa are legend. Who has not seen the movies and photos of cool Italians with nary a care zooming through the narrow roads of the inner cities of Rome or Venice on their little scooters? When Italian culture and pretty much all things Italian came to be in style in Germany, the little motorcycles also gained in popularity, and to this day they are the prime form of transportation for the highs school generation that is old enough to finally apply for a driver’s license.
Perhaps one of the main reasons for their popularity rests on the fact that you can find cheap motorcycle tires and other supplies for these little scooters, while at the same time looking hip without the expensive motorcycle gear. Of course, there are a large number of clubs devoted to honest to goodness motorcycles and on the weekends they can be heard roaring over the Autobahn and other roads. While they are always courteous to other drivers and pedestrians alike, they are still sometimes eyed with a bit of suspicion – in part because of the sheer number of riders that gather together. Of course, if you are looking for cheap motorcycles for sale, nothing has the Eastern European market beat. After all, cheap new motorcycles as well as cheap used motorcycles are for sale in local stores as well as for export. While they lack the sleek style of the Vespa, they make up for their perceived chunkiness with the kind of power only motorcycles can offer. As such, these new motorcycles are cheap, powerful, and easily obtained. It is interesting to note that the aficionados of motorcycles in Germany are vastly different from those in the United States. The former see their motorcycles not so much as an extension of their selves but much more as a vehicle for social interaction and adventure travel. It is rare to find a rider who is not a member of one or sometimes a number of clubs, and who does not sport a few emblems on his jacket to proudly showcase his hobby. If you have a chance to visit Europe, you owe it to yourself to rent a Vespa when you are in Italy. There is simply no other way of experiencing the narrow streets and the fast paced life than on such a little scooter that will permit you to feel the Mediterranean breeze on your face while soaking in the sights and sounds.
